THE REVIEW

And off we go. No set address, just the intense perception of sound to guide us and the certainty that when the last track ends, you feel the need to listen to it all over again.

The beginning is electrifying, "Lonely Star" cements the tracks to come, almost forgetting the previous (just a few months old, to be fair) "House Of Balloons".

Here, everything is more expanded: the music, the percussion sometimes obsessive, the voice.

Far from pop and far from any categorization.

Scattered gems like the title track, "The Birds Part 1", "The Zone" with the sampled voice ad libitum in the background, the endless and ethereal "Gone" and the dub traits of the closing track "Heaven Or Las Vegas".

A small flaw is the (tricky) acoustic "Rolling Stone", too CraigDavid-esque, and honestly out of the mood of the entire piece.

Call it Contemporary R'n'B or Post Dubstep: call it whatever you like, but ignite with every percussive trait, the true strength of this album.

Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd has struck at the heart.

Summary by Bot

The Weeknd's 'Thursday' is an expanded and intense follow-up to his debut, blending contemporary R&B with dubstep influences. Highlights include 'Lonely Star,' 'The Birds Part 1,' and 'Gone.' Though the acoustic track 'Rolling Stone' feels out of place, the album's ethereal soundscapes and passionate delivery make it a compelling listen. Abel Tesfaye delivers a unique, hard-to-categorize work that invites repeated plays.
