December 21, 2011: Abel Tesfaye's trilogy, aka The Weeknd, reaches its completion.
The release of “EchoesOfSilence” completes the circle, confirming the happy insights that first emerged with “House Of Balloons” and then with “Thursday.”
The sounds here are perhaps even rawer and colder than before, without compromising the effectiveness of the result, and actually adding a touch of class to the entire work.
Each piece, in essence, lives on its own light, completing, especially in the melodies, the notes already expressed before.
Considering this, at least for the writer, the gems of “EchoesOfSilence” are:
- "Initiation" and its obsessive rhythm with the use of samples, at times truly ingenious; the guitar loop that serves as a sound backdrop for the recorded voice and then presented at different speeds: the track, in short, the most engaging of the record;
- "Same Old Song," offers a melody that takes the listener back to the happiest episodes of “House Of Balloons”;
- "Next," with its slow advance, its piano notes, and the never intrusive percussion backdrop that hits right to the heart (chorus included);
- the concluding title-track, simply indescribable.

Now one might wonder what will happen after these three excellent records published in just nine months, in the meantime, we can wish ourselves, quite calmly, a good listen in the fullest sense of the statement.
