With "The Mirror Explodes" The Warlocks continue to define the path they had already outlined in previous works. A path rich in hallucinatory psychedelic imagination, haunting atmospheres, and often desolate as well. Our artists also decide to examine their sound attitude, keeping it intact, but with less acidic, less paranoia-rich influences. But don't misunderstand, the formula remains the same; so if the excellent "Heavy Deavy Skull Lover" managed to get you hooked, this one will too. The main references, in fact, always remain the same: in the quieter moments, hints of the Velvet Underground can be found; noise remnants reminiscent of Sonic Youth; wall of sound typical of the shoegaze of the Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine.

"The Mirror Explodes" should be enjoyed in one breath, because the 8 tracks on the album generate an inexhaustible atmosphere shrouded by a fog created by walls of super distorted guitars and sharp arpeggios; guitars with sudden drops in pressure followed by (two) monotonous and rhythmic drums. Undoubtedly, the most significant moments are found in "The Midnight Sun", the only track where a vaguely more crystalline and radiant air emerges while always anchored to the predominant darkness (as understood from the song's title). Another significant moment is the fantastic suspense atmosphere of "There Is A Formula To Your Despair"; or the instrumental "Frequency Meltdown", strengthening, overflowing, and lively; and finally, the suggestive flair of the closing "Static Eyes" should not be overlooked.

The album in question might slightly disappoint those who previously immortalized them as great successors of sacred monsters like Black Sabbath, Velvet Underground, and others. But if you do not belong to this group, rest assured: indulge yourself.
