THE REVIEW

Once upon a time, there was California, the mountain flowers, the rainy day woman, the long-haired folks, the white tunics and bare feet, the Volkswagen colorful and smiling, Peace Love Unity Respect in the air, basically, everything - including the long jams of the Grateful Dead, the Jefferson Airplane (who, I’d like to remind you, never did drugs), Psychedelia, Jim Morrison's delusions, the Summer Of Love, a black man with a Fender, insignificant events. The Flower Children sang their song...

...the dark side of the force was a rat that came from the sewers between the skyscrapers of New York - the usual four rats, to tell the truth, the Velvet Underground, the Children of the Holes.
A joint? LSD? What??? We go heavy, we mean business, what the heck - Well, you already know the story, so let's skip everything like a nice Heinkel He 112 and get to the point - John Cale (viola, piano, organ, bass, and more) is not there, he's gone, Cale is no longer our thing.

<< And who misses him? We still kick ass live! >>

Robert Quine (and if you don't know him, tough luck) was a huge fan of Lurido's band,
such Lui Reed, Lui Reed! ...and smart as he was, he recorded the concerts that the Velvet Underground were doing in the period of '68 - '69 - two dates in San Francisco, at the Family Dog (November '69) and one at the University of Washington (also in November '69). Smart as he was, he also became a great friend of the band, who gave their permission for the recordings, and the Quine Tapes were born. The two words stand for The Best Live of the Velvet Underground.
Damn, English summarizes like a Monster (Magnet) ...anyway, three killer setlists in three (3!) records, with three monstrous Sister Ray, there you go. Nothing else. Tze Tze. You can find them here, that’s it.

To the silly question "but does magic exist?" you can now answer as if your most basic information depended on it: Yes damn, Yes - it feels like being among the audience, do this: listen to The Black Angel's Death Song and place a picture of Reed at the microphone in front of your face, with that guitar always so dirty and ugly. It works, guaranteed like lemonade. Oh, if it works. Or sit in your car, get comfortable in the seat, pull the handbrake, and let Heroin run - physically your car will remain still, but here it feels like being on a spaceship, Nèh...you go up, you go down, you calm down but there's no time because you start again suddenly, bum bum bum...I've always said that Tucker is a hell of a drummer, and those of you on the sidelines, get pumped with Like a Virgin, come on, be good...

Freakin' awesome, you can find it at 19.50 euros, grab it, run home and start it: a moment of true enjoyment. Mars can't hold a candle to it, and Veronica Mars can't...

Doug and Sally insideeeee
They cookin' for the Down Pipeeeee
Who's staring at Miss Rayon
Who's busy licking off her Pig Pen
I’mmmmmmmmmm searching for my mainline,
I said I couldn't hit it s-s-s-sideways
I said I couldn't hit it siiiiiiideways,
Aw! just like Sister Ray said...
Whip it oooooooon!!!
