Another view is a collection composed of unreleased material and demos? So, is it a record I recommend only to true fans of the Velvet Underground, who want to have the band's complete collection? For the rest, there's nothing new, two instrumental demos, the short and psychedelic Ferryboat Bill, in my opinion one of VU's worst songs, the original version of Rock n'roll, which might be interesting?
The highlights are the two versions of Hey Mr Rain, where you can distinctly hear the touch of John Cale and his magical violin. An enthralling piece in which Cale's electric viola draws nervous trails of madness that slither alongside Lou's guitar? Especially the second version of the song is excellent, its style is that of the early Velvet, approaching classics like Heroin and Venus in Furs (obviously without equalling them...). Then there's We're gonna have a real good time together, a nice fast piece that Lou Reed would reprise in Street Hassle, and Coney Island steeplechase, which, although very far from the Velvet style, in my opinion, is a little masterpiece of rock n'roll? In short, a record that doesn't completely displease? But it's not a record that pleases either...
Only for the die-hard fans..
