The Veils are a London-formed rock band fronted by singer-songwriter Finn Andrews. Debut album The Runaway Found appeared in 2004; subsequent records include Nux Vomica, Sun Gangs, Time Stays, We Go and Total Depravity. The band has been associated with Rough Trade in coverage.

Reviews note frequent lineup changes, a recurring praise for Finn Andrews' voice, comparisons to artists such as Nick Cave and mentions that David Lynch is a fan (and reportedly wanted Andrews to act). One review describes Finn Andrews as the son of Barry from XTC.

DeBaser reviews praise Finn Andrews' distinctive, chameleon-like voice and the band's melancholic, often dark songwriting. Early work is described as raw alt-rock while later albums explore darker, more electronic and cinematic textures. Several albums (notably Nux Vomica and Total Depravity) receive strong endorsement.

For:Fans of melancholic, theatrical indie/alternative rock; listeners who like Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Radiohead-adjacent sounds.

 This album has great class.

Beauty. Beauty to spare. And power, lots of it.

“Total Depravity” is one of the best albums released by The Veils, far from the raw alt-rock of the fundamental debut “The Runaway Found” (and even further from the classic ambitions of the superhit “Lavinia”) but compact and coherent in its offering.
