A mid-1980s project led by Andrew Eldritch formed during disagreements around the Sisters of Mercy; released the record Gift and explored a darker, more electronic direction.

Created by Andrew Eldritch as a response to disputes with Wayne Hussey; the project used the drum-machine nicknamed Dr. Avalanche (an Emu Drumulator); featured guest contributions from Patricia Morrison and a marginally credited Alan Vega according to the review; Gift contains long, synth-heavy tracks noted as transitional toward the Floodland era.

Reviews portray The Sisterhood's Gift as a transitional, electronic-leaning project by Andrew Eldritch. Strengths: atmosphere, moments of melancholic songwriting. Weaknesses: length, repetitive passages. Overall regarded as a minor but solid document of mid-80s dark music.

For:Fans of Sisters of Mercy, gothic rock, dark wave and 1980s electronic/industrial music.

The pinnacle of the album "Gift" is nonetheless the emotionally melancholy synthetic ballad "Giving Ground", which with organ sounds and less aggressive arrangements packages what I believe was Eldritch's project idea at that moment; namely a less new wave evolution of the Sisters of Mercy, turned to the techno-industrial taste that was beginning to be in the air, but with a decadent poetic vein.
