The Profile

The Sick Rose are a Turin-based garage-punk band formed in 1983. Their debut Faces (1986, Electric Eye) is hailed as a landmark of the garage revival. Shaking Street (1989) shifted toward a Detroit-infused rock’n’roll. In the 2000s/2010s they embraced power-pop with Blastin’ Out (2005) and No Need For Speed (2011, produced by Dom Mariani), returning with Someplace Better (2018) on Area Pirata.

Formed in 1983 in Turin by vocalist Luca Re and guitarist Diego Mese with Rinaldo Doro (Farfisa/keys), Maurizio Campisi (bass), and Dante Garimanno (drums). Early releases appeared on Electric Eye; later reissues and new albums were handled by Area Pirata. Faces (1986) is widely praised; Shaking Street (1989) emphasizes MC5/Stooges/Flamin’ Groovies influences; subsequent records moved toward power pop. No Need For Speed (2011) was produced by Dom Mariani.
