It's the third time I've tried to review this album, striving to bring to light the beautiful things contained within it, and I've finally come to a conclusion: there are none.
Or rather, there are very few.

For all those who wondered what happened to Simon Jones and Simon Tong, respectively the bassist and guitarist of the Verve, here comes The Shining. Independent label (Zuma), cool haircut, psychedelic cover just right...in short, the attention is captured. But only the visual one.

True Skies comes across as a terrible copycat of Urban Hymns in an even more pop-infused form (they sound like the Travis trying to remake Weeping Willow or the Embrace slightly fast-forwarded). There's not a riff or a solo worth noting; it seems that Bonehead is playing the guitar, arpeggiating three chords (except for Until The End, the 11-minute whine that closes the album, where there are more effects).

The only things worth saving in this miserable production are Quicksilver, the opening track, which already on the first listen makes one believe they've discovered a new respectable power-rock band, and the voice of the singer, a certain Baxter, who, unlike Richard Ashcroft, can extend his voice upwards, reaching excellent high notes, as well as covering everything "horizontally" with various overlapping backing vocals (here too, in full Verve style).

I don't want to drag on and delve too much into the merit of each single track; it would really be a waste of time for me and a nuisance for the reader, who would have the annoying impression of something already heard, or rather, already reviewed too many times.

Tracklist and Lyrics

01   Quicksilver (03:59)

I kept my feet on the ground
Till my ship ran around
Then I soon lost my way

As I wandered lonely
Like a cloud that could only
Drifting through time

With no superstition
I heeded to vision
I reached for the light

My head started ringing
And voices were singing
That filled up the void

Here the noise

I was remeniscing
Somebody was listening
But whisper the time is mine
You all know about me
Already you doubt me
Will I still have a choice?

Hear the noise
Fill the void
