Open, shouted, instinctive.

Taking something ungainly and, with kicks and punches, turning it into its opposite. This is the game of The Rural Alberta Advantage, the molds with which they (sorry) build castles on the beach.

First, giving up subletting one's ideas for a merely symbolic, yet dishonest, levy (since ideas live in the air and it's always a matter of misappropriation). Then, bypassing the brain, aiming for the gut. I Google, MySpace, YouTube. I discover that our band is compared to Two Gallants, Japandroids, Violent Femmes (???), Plants And Animals, Handsome Furs, Sunset Rubdown.

Cultural fetishism, a know-it-all attitude from performance anxiety.

The truth is a banality. The point of this group's existence is to comfort those who have devoured Neutral Milk Hotel and are tired of eating leftovers (the three demos, for those unaware). Sure, by choosing the body, they leave themselves open to criticism. Of little intelligence. Of little grace. But who has never said something foolish, twisted an ankle, been short of oxygen, missed a volley?
But how communicative the body is: looking left, you’re lying, raising an eyebrow, you’re surprised, scratching your nose, you’re interested.

On this, I have no doubt: The Rural Alberta Advantage never look left. They won't raise your eyebrows, but, if you’re lucky, you'll scratch your nose.
