American alternative rock band formed in Boston in 1986, known for influential late-80s/early-90s albums such as Surfer Rosa and Doolittle and for shaping alternative/indie rock.

Original lineup and principal members include Black Francis (also known as Frank Black), Joey Santiago, Kim Deal, and David Lovering. Seminal albums include Come On Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, Bossanova and Trompe le Monde. The band originally split in 1993 and reunited in 2004; Indie Cindy was released in 2014.
