Probably almost no one has ever heard of this group. In fact, it is a satellite project of two members of the New Order, specifically Gillian Gilbert and Steve Morris, the two musicians of the English group most tied to electronic experimentation. It is therefore logical to expect an album with typical "Newordian" sounds.
The album was released in 1993, right after the "NO" released "Republic", and from this Morris and Gilbert drew inspiration for the production of this album, which sounds very pop, and the experimentation to which New Order had dedicated their lives throughout the 80s is strangely set aside in favor of a "flat" and lackluster sound, which in the long run risks becoming tiresome. Perhaps the project of Morris and Gilbert is somehow less interesting compared to that of Peter Hook (Monaco) and Bernard Sumner (Electronic), but it deserves to be considered, particularly by New Order fans, who here will find an old friend, Stephen Hague, who produced the celebrated piece "True Faith" in 1987. Specifically, Hague's work on this album was to produce some tracks, such as: "Tasty Fish", "Selfish", "The Greatest Thing" (which opens very similarly to "World" by NO), "Feel This Love", and "Ninth Configuration" (probably one of the most successful songs).
Almost all the other tracks pass by anonymously with Gilbert's voice accompanying the songs without much conviction. In the end, the album is not bad, but I would recommend the purchase (assuming you manage to find it) only to NO fans who would like to expand their knowledge of the satellite projects of the English group members. For everyone else, I would recommend steering towards the "official" New Order albums.
Almost forgot! The artistic part of the album (cover and booklet) is entrusted to Peter Saville, the same who curated (and still curates) the presentation of the Joy Division and New Order albums.
Carefree, yet with a high-level and quite radio-friendly melodic line are the three singles: "Tasty Fish," "Selfish," and "Innocence."
The overall judgment is positive for the above-mentioned episodes, so much so that the work will be reissued in a limited edition and remastered in 2010.
