Rating: It starts with punches in the mouth and ends with kicks to the stomach. This is how the 2006 debut of these four Roman guys could be described. But let's get to the point. A strange three-headed metallic monster where the impact and violence of hardcore perfectly blend with noise incursions, death metal splinters, sludge, sick nods to stoner and certain southern, interludes reminiscent of cartoon theme songs, rock'n'roll riffs and even a pinch of psychedelia.
It's not very often that you hear such a band around here. Songs that are an emotional whirlwind in constant motion... very original structures where the relentless and multifaceted riffing of Gabriele Giaccari and a powerful and effective rhythm section pave the way for the shouted and delirious vocals of the singer Gianni (who is also the author of all the lyrics). Power and speed that they know how to mediate excellently when it's time to slow down and indulge in melodic parentheses that bring out a great taste for arrangements and remarkable style (even in these instances Gianni delivers an outstanding performance). All this combined with an uncommon irony that is already evident from the song titles. A deadly mix that brings to mind names like Converge, Dazzling Killmen, Dillinger Escape Plan, Unsane but also reminiscences of Jesus Lizard, Neurosis, Today is the day. Despite the mentioned bands, The Orange Man Theory already show in their first record release talent and personality in addition to a defined musical imprint.
In production, the group is assisted by Steve "Il Reverendo" Austin, someone who knows a thing or two about these sounds. The mastermind of Today is the Day indeed gives the sounds of this platter that right layer of degradation and sonic dirt that in these cases never hurts. Not content, he plays the synths and keyboards on "Where we're going we don't need roads" (who guesses the movie quote?) and places his visceral and rowdy screams on the track that closes the album: "007(Ce fa na pippa)"... how many bands around can afford something like that? An excellent performance by the Roman group that makes us hopeful for future releases. Alongside Infernal Poetry, Mothercare and very few others, one of the bands in Italy to keep an eye on and rely upon.
It is recommended to listen to during a party to celebrate the end of the world among sacrificial goats, surfer vampires, and foaming-at-the-mouth cannibal horses... all strictly drunk! Meanwhile, now try to ride this cannibal horse yourself...
