The Neville Brothers

Musical Group

Formed in New Orleans in 1976, the Neville Brothers' lineup has included Aaron Neville (vocals), Art Neville (keyboards), Cyril Neville (drums), Charles Neville (saxophone/guitar) and Ivan Neville (bass/keyboards). They blended R&B, soul, jazz, gospel and other American vernacular styles.

Yellow Moon (1989) was produced by Daniel Lanois. Aaron Neville pursued a parallel solo career. The group's sound resists simple genre classification and frequently incorporates gospel and Caribbean elements.

DeBaser hosts a handful of affectionate reviews of The Neville Brothers focusing on albums such as Yellow Moon and Brother's Keeper. Reviewers praise the group's genre-defying mix of R&B, soul, jazz and gospel and highlight Aaron Neville's vocals and Daniel Lanois's production on Yellow Moon. The coverage is nostalgic and admiring.

For:Fans of New Orleans R&B, soul, roots and anyone interested in genre-blending American music.

This album was introduced to me by a German, in Kenya, during one of my countless trips to Africa between the late Eighties and early Nineties.

They have been found in the most inconceivable places: in the country section, in the gospel section... This confusion has undoubtedly harmed their radio promotion and more.
