The Nation of Ulysses

Musical Group

American punk/post-hardcore band formed in 1988 and led by Ian Svenonius. Noted for politically charged imagery, a trumpet in the lineup, and releases on Dischord Records. The group disbanded in 1992.

Formed in 1988; released music on Dischord; key releases include 13-Point Program to Destroy America (1991) and Plays Pretty for Baby (1992); disbanded in 1992. Ian Svenonius later led The Make-Up, Weird War and Chain and The Gang. Their sound incorporated elements of rockabilly, soul and garage-punk alongside hardcore punk.

The Nation of Ulysses (active 1988–1992) blended hardcore punk with rockabilly, soul and garage-punk and wrapped it in avant-garde, politicized imagery. The DeBaser review praises Ian Svenonius's provocative manifesto and the band's singular place in the Dischord-era scene. Recommended for fans of experimental punk and D.C. underground history.

For:Fans of punk, post-hardcore, Dischord-era music, and readers interested in politicized underground bands.

«A violent separatist political party, a terrorist organization active in the Washington D.C. area».
