They come from Liverpool, they create excellent alternative rock, and they have just released one of the most exciting albums of the year that has just begun. We can start from here to begin discussing the debut album of this quartet formed by Lia Metcalfe (vocals and guitar), Callum Thompson (guitar), George Favager (bass), and Paul Crilly (drums).

Thanks to an intense live activity that saw them as the opening act for Royal Blood and The Amazons, The Mysterines have just released their first energetic album, produced by Catherine Marks, through the Fiction Records label. It highlights the group's distinctive features: a powerful voice and the imposing stage presence of the frontwoman, grunge guitars, and a 90's inspired sound.

This is especially noticeable when they infuse their sound with typical sonorities of that decade, drawing both from Nirvana ("Life's A Bitch" and “Dangerous”) as well as from the Nick Cave/PJ Harvey duo (“Under Your Skin”), while the acoustic “Still Call You Home” and the closing track “Confession Song” show the band's more melancholic side.

Yes, maybe they are just revivalists, but what a delight these 43 minutes are!
