THE REVIEW

It is with great pleasure that I present to you this review of a band to which I am very attached! I'm attached for two reasons! Firstly because I discovered them live for the first time in 2000 in an underground club in my city, and they really excited me. Secondly, because upon discovering them, I immediately noticed the affinity with some of my musical tastes. Affinity with Sonic Youth and Blonde Redhead. But beware, I don’t want to stir trouble because they are two notches below. And I've said it all.

The band in question is called The Lapse. Led by a certain Chris Leo and Toko Yatsuda. Miss Toko is a former member of Blonde Redhead. The music scene, as always, starts from the United States. Boston scene. The album in question is "Heaven Ain't Happenin’". Following "Betrayal". Chris Leo is nothing short of a fundamental figure in the American Indie Rock scene. Let’s not forget that years ago, before founding The Lapse, he created a band called Native Nod and then the great Van Pelt. Truly exciting. Now a cult. Especially with the album "Sultans Of Sentiment".

The music of this controversial artist is quite raw and visceral, the voice expresses anger and reveals the darkness present in and around Boston. Seductive and acidic guitar, nervous, without any particular solos. This is not a technical rock band. The influences of Sonic and Blonde can be felt. I would also add the legendary Karate. Ten tracks to listen to with pleasure if you are a fan of the genre. Especially "Buffet", "S.O.S.", "I Vow For Now", "Cell Yelding Cell", and "Aerial".

I remember as if it were yesterday, April 18, 2000, when I saw them live. They were awesome. All in all, I can say that in my opinion and also according to critics, it is a good work. When it came out, unlike Betrayal, it surprised quite a bit by achieving the perfect balance, at least for those sensations and emotions it tried to convey to the audience. The Lapse some time ago disbanded, and Chris Leo, amidst various vicissitudes, prison experiences, breakups, and writing attempts (White Pigeons), embarked on a new path with Vague Angels.

After all this, it is twelve forty-five, I'm sleepy and going to bed. I await your comments!!!
