The debut of Jesus Lizard, released by Touch And Go in 1989, in this delirious debut, Jesus Lizard clearly showcase the defining characteristics of their sound, a vibrant, angular guitar, new, an unmistakable bass with its hypnotic and heavy grooves, which lay the foundations of a certain noise rock, and a singer like David Yow who simply set the pace for those who wanted to follow the path toward post-indie-noise-callitwhatyouwant rock.
In this album, there is no drum replaced by electronics (Big Black docet), full of ideas and innovations both in terms of sound and style and execution, the singer and bassist David Wm were together in the very noisy Scratch Acid (recommended!!!), hence explained the amount of "punk" present in their sound, it starts with "Blockbuster" with a malevolent voice that you will hardly forget, then continues with "Bloody Mary", "Rabid Pigs","Starlet", excellent tracks that, however, remain average, without revealing the immense talent of Jesus Lizard (as in their "Goat" for example), and the final proto-psychedelic journey of "Happy Bunny Goes Fluff Fluff Along".
Interestingly, every album by Jesus Lizard has been named with a four-letter word ("Pure", "Head", "Goat", "Liar", "Show", "Down", "Shot"), four letters also in the song with which Jesus Lizard in 1992 gave birth to a split vinyl 45 rpm with Nirvana respectively "Puss" for the lizards, and "Oh, The Guilty" for Cobain & Co.'s band, unfortunately, the record was released in a limited edition despite succeeding in introducing Jesus Lizard to the "general public" thanks in part to the "wake" of Nirvana's success. Enjoy listening.
