American music group formed in 1954, known for hits such as "Shout!" and "It's Your Thing" and for blending soul, funk, R&B and rock.

Original vocal nucleus included Ronald Isley, Rudolph (Rudy) Isley and O'Kelly Isley Jr.; in 1973 the group expanded to include Ernie Isley (guitar), Marvin Isley (bass) and brother-in-law Chris Jasper (keyboards).

A positive appreciation of The Isley Brothers' 1973 album 3+3, praising its warm, soft-funk sound and rock-tinged guitar. Highlights include the original "That Lady" and inventive covers (James Taylor, Summer Breeze). Notes the 1973 lineup expansion with Ernie, Marvin and Chris Jasper as a turning point.

For:Fans of 1970s soul, funk and classic R&B; guitar and production aficionados.

Soft funky, that is, not as radical as Funkadelic or Sly and the Family Stone, warm and elegant vocal lines, irresistible rhythm, and a great display of superfuzz solo guitar, between Hendrix and Hazel, capable of dragging the song into rock territory.
