Born in Turin in 2009, the Hyde project found its discography starting point with the 2012 EP "Evolutionary Trash." Now, about a year later, here comes the big step, the full-length album titled "Genetic Distortion." As tradition dictates, the band is very close to the sounds that in the 90s and the early new millennium led the city of the Mole to become a sort of "capital" of the alternative sound, with that crossover/nu metal that won widespread acclaim, especially thanks to Linea 77.
Fortunately, these five musicians have little to nothing in common with their renowned fellow citizens, focusing their efforts on a proposal that brings them closer to bands like Creed, Disturbed, and Deftones. "Genetic Distortion" is thus a mix of influences between U.S. radio charts rock, the groove released by the crossover, and the intimacy transmitted by Chino Moreno and company, a very varied work that will appeal to those seeking power and at the same time passion. Not having become too metal is certainly a point in their favor; the risk of resembling hundreds of other bands would have undoubtedly been high, and for precisely this reason having strong doses of melody in alternative contexts is not so bad after all.
“Breath Witness” and “Negative Zero” are two tracks that well describe the whole concept of the album, delivering strong emotions and at the same time well-conceived soft phases. The Piedmontese capital has once again produced an interesting name, showing us how the Italian scene is in constant evolution in every musical genre, from metal to rock, including – indeed – realms like these.
