The Housemartins were an English indie pop band from Hull, active 1983–1988. Key members included Paul Heaton, Stan Cullimore, Norman Cook and Hugh Whitaker (later replaced by Dave Hemingway). They released London 0 Hull 4 (1986), The People Who Grinned Themselves to Death (1987) and the compilation Now That's What I Call Quite Good (1988).

Their a cappella cover 'Caravan of Love' reached No.1 on the UK singles chart. After the band split, Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway formed The Beautiful South, and Norman Cook later became known as Fatboy Slim. Their records were issued on Go! Discs.

DeBaser reviews celebrate The Housemartins' short, intense run in the mid-1980s, praising their two studio albums and compilation. Critics highlight upbeat pop informed by soul, gospel and a cappella moments. The group's best-known single is the a cappella Caravan of Love.
