Once upon a time, there was a group of four boys from Solofra, a town very important for the leather trade in the province of Avellino. One fine day in 2012, they decided that the opportunities life and circumstances offered them at the time were not acceptable, so they wisely formed a band.
In the summer of 2013, the single "Eroi" was released, attracting people to their concerts like bees to honey (like hornet's to honey). The sounds of Caos Melodico harken back to a number of bands that, in their own way, contributed to the history of music, people like Coldplay, Echo and the Bunnymen, U2 in their seminal period, and Interpol themselves, whom our boys look up to, as the band's info tells us. Indeed, some passages can easily be likened to Paul Banks' band but with a completely different voice. Caos Melodico consists of 5/6 tracks that could all potentially be singles, making you say, "Hey, we are the Hornets and we kick a..!"
Here we find ourselves faced with a rather mature debut (average age of the guys 22 years), born and managed over the years, matured like a good wine with the awareness of having a good album in hand to at least achieve a passing grade, perfectly in line with the trend of the moment. "24 ore" is the classic opening track, the guitars churn out unstoppable riffs, the drums have great potential, they're really p...ed off in this track! Perhaps in this piece, as in reality throughout the EP, a deeper, darker voice would be needed, but nonetheless, we do not complain about the frontman's work. "Verità Scomoda" has an important intro, and up to the chorus, all four seem to get along, the guitar reminds me of the riffs of pure post-punk, the drums play by the rules, and the bass is a solid foundation, the raft the others cling to, the voice is good as well (an English Verdena). This track finds a small flaw in the chorus, too repetitive and perhaps too confusing. "Eroi," with the appropriate proportions, seems like a piece for the soundtrack of Sleepy Hollow, where the guitar remains the dominant focus, making you understand that the boys play what they want! The magic touch, and perhaps the track that raises the average, is "Sognare di più." For this track, there’s really nothing to say, simply perfect. "Visioni Nobili" is an excellent calling card with an unusual organ as its base. It's no wonder that this record struck people's ears as something new, or hit in their heads, as if to say: "We've already listened to this," placing the Hornet's as a band positioned in the New wave of the New wave.
