Dirty, filthy, boisterous, ragged, jarring, vile, and rude...
The New York Honeymoon Killers are all this and more, "Hung Far Low" is an album made of flesh and blood, of tortured guitars, of limping percussion, of meowing voices, it’s 100% rock, it’s blues at its core and noise in execution... it’s probably the blues-rock masterpiece of the 90s.
Where do they come from? Probably from some circle of hell previously visited by Jagger and his mates or perhaps from the same slums of an industrial metropolis from which their cousins Pussy Galore hail.
Every track is performed with the ferocity of a pack of (were)wolves and with the delicacy of a wrecking yard, among the general frenzy stand out "Kansas City Milkman" crooked hard-rock howled at the moon, "Devil's Jump" noise-psychedelic pandemonium where leader Jerry Teel mumbles and growls like the best of Gibby Haynes (Butthole Surfers), the relentless rhythm of "Tanks A Lot", another psychedelic gem like "You Can't Do That", and the destructive "Vanna White" whose ending can be considered the highest and most representative moment of the record.
It pains me not to mention other equally beautiful tracks, but rock isn't made with words, rock is made by bands of yokel clowns like the Honeymoon Killers.
