THE REVIEW

A bloodbath. This is "Catholic Priests Fuck Children," released in '96 by Praxis Dr. Bearmann, one of the most abrasive records from the British Grey Wolves, mentors of that death-industrial which, so to speak, dilutes the radical ferocity of power-electronics, preferring rotten, harsh, slow, and droning sounds, more dusty than the straightforward harsh-noise massacres that were, above all, from the cannibal William Bennett, and which will later make the fortune of now reference circles such as Cold Meat, Tesco, and Malignant.

A movement that might have in this work its most fitting manifesto. A record perhaps anachronistic, since porno-fascist power-electronics is purely an eighties affair, yet it manages to hit the target nonetheless. The target of our ears, which are literally raped by a series of noise bursts, tornados of terrifying distorted drones, cyclical and mechanical dissonances once again explaining the most abstract meaning of industrial. All this without almost ever exaggerating or going beyond.

Not the usual wall of noise blasted at full volume, then, but something placed right halfway between the mantric industrial of Zoviet France, the harshness branded Whitehouse, and the evocative power of Norwegian black metal (after all, it is in northern Europe that death will give its best).

This is one of the last 'flashes' of the already dying industrial scene. But beware, do not drop dead from it.

Summary by Bot

The review examines The Grey Wolves' 1996 album 'Catholic Priests Fuck Children' as a seminal and abrasive work in the death-industrial and power-electronics genres. It highlights its unique blend of slow, droning harsh noise that stands apart from typical noisecore, evoking elements of Zoviet France and Whitehouse while incorporating black metal atmospheres. The album is seen as a powerful and somewhat anachronistic manifesto of 1980s porno-fascist power-electronics, demonstrating remarkable restraint and artistic ferocity. It ultimately represents one of the last major flashes of a fading industrial scene.
