Formed in 1968 as an R&B group and soon shifting toward symphonic progressive rock, The Greatest Show On Earth released Horizons (1970) and a second album before splitting around 1971. The band featured an eight-member line-up with a prominent horn section, flute, organ and keyboards.

Horizons was released in 1970. The group had three horn players (Dick Hanson, Tex Phillpots, Ian Aitchison); Colin Horton-Jennings sang, played guitar and flute; Mick Deacon played keyboards; Garth Watt-Roy played guitar and later joined East of Eden. The band issued two albums and split circa 1971.
