American San Francisco–based mid-1960s psychedelic rock group, best known for early recordings featuring Grace Slick and for versions of 'White Rabbit' and 'Somebody To Love' recorded before those songs became Jefferson Airplane hits.

The Great Society were part of the mid-1960s San Francisco scene. Grace Slick was their vocalist and later joined Jefferson Airplane. 'Somebody To Love' and 'White Rabbit' were recorded by the group and later became well-known Jefferson Airplane songs. Collector's Item compiles live recordings from San Francisco venues (circa 1966).

A positive, nostalgic review of Collector's Item by The Great Society, highlighting its status as an early San Francisco live document. The reviewer praises Grace Slick's voice and the band's acidic, hypnotic guitar sound. Standout songs noted are White Rabbit and Somebody To Love. The album is recommended as both a historical testimony and musically interesting.

For:Fans of 1960s San Francisco psychedelic rock, Grace Slick and Jefferson Airplane enthusiasts, collectors of live vintage recordings.

it is the voice of Grace Slick (for those who don't know her, she is famous as the singer of Jefferson Airplane), in my opinion, the greatest, most wonderful singer that rock has ever given us, in a particularly prolific moment of her artistic career... and here my descriptive abilities fail... the only thing I can say is listen to her and judge thereafter...
