Hello everyone! For my first review, I wanted to choose an album that truly means a lot to me... so surely nothing better than "Something To Write Home About" by the Get Up Kids. I know that to be a good reviewer I should be objective and not get carried away by emotions, but forgive me, with this CD I just can't manage it.
For me, this is not just a simple emo album (or whatever you want to call it, who cares in the end), but it’s reliving my emotions in the form of music. It’s difficult, perhaps impossible, to find a song better than another, even if they are different from each other, they are all equally beautiful and emotional. The album opens with the energy of "Holiday", a song that will make you think of that girl you met at the beach, whom you like so much but can only see a few days a year. Then, it moves from the sweetness of "Long Goodnight" and "I'll Catch You" to more decisive songs like "Ten Minutes" or "I'm A Loner Dottie, A Rebel" without ever having the temptation to skip tracks. You will listen to this album so many times almost without realizing it, and by the time you reach the end, you will want to start over again. Whatever your mood, sad, angry, or cheerful, this album will always have the right song. Matt Pryor's voice is beautiful, the sound is very refined yet equally powerful, the riffs are just spot-on, and the keyboard adds an extra touch of sweetness to it all. What else can I say? I can only thank these five guys for writing something so beautiful and personal...
I hope I have been exhaustive in reviewing this fantastic album but, being my first review, criticisms are welcome...
"The Get Up Kids offered what remains the quintessential Emo record."
"The expressive freedom of the musicians makes each piece always interesting and originally constructed."
