Yo! For my first review, I choose Snowball by the English band Field Mice.
An eight-track mini LP, released in 1989, between singles, by the legendary Sarah Records. A now-defunct label that included some excellent bands in its catalog: Orchids, Sea Urchins, Blueboy, etc...
The protagonist of this collection's tracks is melancholy. You can find it in different ways, such as in the more lively "You're Kidding Aren't You" and "This Love Is Not Wrong" or in the proto-dark, super chorus of "Letting Go". The nuances lead to Post-Punk, New Wave, and that genre that would later be labeled as Shoegaze. These elements are well blended in "White", a track characterized by layers, distortions, and a sort of almost vulnerable anger. The remaining tracks are softer and seem to have the quality of being able to lull the listener.
A half-hour of what I consider the true 80s indie-pop school.
