This amazing live recording from a Swedish radio broadcast in 1967 showcases the immense garage energy the band was able to unleash live.
Like other illustrious representatives of the genre, the Electric Prunes lost much of their anger and grit in their 45s and 33s, which presented them as a light and catchy psychedelic beat band, tailored for the top sales charts.
A chilling record, excellently remastered, that features expansive psycho-blues jams, searing guitar solos, supported by an amphetamine-driven rhythm section.
Rock and roll to raise the dead, songs like Try Me On For Size, Get Me To The World On Time, Long Day’s Flight, are pure adrenaline, sweat, and garage punk soul.
Besides the famous I Had Too Much To Dream that cemented their place in history, the covers of two great blues masters like I Got My Mojo Workin by Muddy Waters and Smokestack Lightning by Howlin’ Wolf are impressive, concentrated doses of heavy psychedelic rockabilly.
At the end of that year, the group disbanded, and the name passed into the hands of producer-composer David Axelrod who turned it into a rock mass, but that's another story.
In my opinion, one of the greatest live albums of all time, which will undoubtedly amaze, considering the year it was made and the limited resources available.
Unmissable.
