What drives me to buy a box set like this, first and foremost beyond my passion, is the devotion I have towards this band, a devotion that was born from their disappearance.
But what is Live in New York? First of all, it's a live show held at the Felt Forum in New York on January 17 and 18, and then it's a six-CD box set, all live. Most of the songs from the two live shows are almost identical, and this could have a negative impact, but listening to the live recording, you realize you haven't entirely made a bad purchase because, first of all, the recording is excellent, the songs are well interpreted, except for a few mishaps like what happened in "Wilde Child" and I really don't know what exactly happened. What I can say is that Ray Manzarek messed up a transition and the piece was skipped in a hurry, but to err is human, especially if it happens to a sacred monster of keyboards like Ray, who wouldn't forgive him.
Then it's always a testimony of a band now disappeared into the bowels of the earth, between history and legend. I wanted to add a few words about the booklet with the history of the band and testimonies from the concert and post-concert. I'll conclude by saying that the price is a bit exaggerated, but if you can't do without it... buy it and enjoy it.
