THE REVIEW

Those sons of bitches at Epic (probably Sony, if I'm not mistaken) released the debut album of the Dead 60's without their knowledge, with a special version of copyright control, the Extended Copy Protection; this nice cd was not only non-copyable (not even for personal use... damn, it feels like I'm talking about heroin...), but it installed a particular type of spyware that exposed the computer to a multitude of viruses and various trojans... so I would suggest boycotting Epic products and downloading those artists in mp3 format (I do this regularly and not just for Epic... I don't like paying for things...).

For the record, on the Dead 60's website, you can find instructions on how to receive at home a copy of the album without Epic's fantastic spyware. With this premise, we can talk about these English guys who, in this short (35 minutes) debut, show how long they've been listening to London Calling and how much they've learned from Sandinista!, mixing dub and reggae with the softer and less rock 'n' roll punk (not Pistols, nor Ramones, nor Dead Kennedys... Clash, basically... but it felt wrong to mention them again...). Thank God they are also reasonably creative; the guy will never be Joe Strummer, but he might possibly get close to being Mick Jones, and I think that's already a nice compliment for them... of course, it also depends a bit on your ambitions...

Summary by Bot

The Dead 60's debut album showcases a creative blend of punk, dub, and reggae, drawing clear influences from The Clash. However, its release was marred by Epic's intrusive Extended Copy Protection software, which prevented copying and installed spyware on users' computers. Despite the controversy, the band offers a fresh take on familiar punk sounds.
