LA RECENSIONE

For the "A Volte Ritornano" column, Ladies & Gentlemen, here are the fabulous DARKNESS!

Yes, after a long 7 years of Sex, Drugs, and no Rock N' Roll, here they are back in shape and more kitsch than ever, with mustaches, lots of black eyeliner, lycra suits, and sequins that even Moira Orfei couldn’t match.

What's new? Well, a nice handful of songs full of "spectacular" riffs that will surely please those who have always appreciated Queen, Boston, Abba, Status Quo, AC/DC, the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Cugini Di Campagna, Ark, Christmas, Carnival, New Year's... but alas, maybe even the divine Lady GaGGa, since these guys are currently touring with this beautiful and talented pop queen... yes... "she wanted us!" they say without a shadow of shame...

Because the Darkness are like Vasco Rossi, a flashy band that loves to amaze and doesn’t care about anything... so you know what we do? Let’s throw in the heavy metal cover of "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" by Radiotesta, which by the way is not bad at all!

Don’t worry, DeRagazzi, relax, it's only fuckin' rock n' roll, there’s nothing wrong if you usually listen to the Crimson King or the Grateful Dead, but you feel like listening to the Darkness while you’re stuck in Milan traffic or painting the house (for instance, I painted a door!)... or even awaken in you the desire to dance in your underwear on the good sofa with socks and an Ivana Spagna wig (the "Easy Lady" period, of course).

Making us have fun. This is what the Darkness know how to do quite well and want to continue doing... and so, welcome back!

The Darkness

The Darkness are an English hard rock band known for flamboyant classic-rock revivalism, Justin Hawkins’ high-register vocals, and a sound often compared (in reviews) to AC/DC and Queen. Their debut “Permission to Land” (2003) broke through in the UK, followed by “One Way Ticket to Hell... And Back” with production by Roy Thomas Baker; later post-reunion albums discussed here include “Pinewood Smile” and “Easter Is Cancelled.”
