THE REVIEW

Hello everyone, after the partial failure with Duran Duran, I'm trying again with a different band, the very famous Cure, with this VHS concert titled Show.

I would like to focus your attention on the Cure of the mid-nineties, so far from the adolescent spleen of the late seventies that characterized them, more glam, more moody, more mysterious Cure.

The artistic product they offered at the time was a package that included songs still played with the guitar but smoothed of any rock edginess, an image of a mysterious band from cursed poetry and catchy dark songs even for those hearing these sounds for the first time. In short, in the nineties they were a rock band for those who listened to pop, which is not easy.

But let's get to the music. The concert opens with the track Open, with lyrics from Les Fleurs du mal with guitars taken from Careful That Axe Eugenie, a seventies Pink Floyd track.

Without doing a track by track, I recall the dreamlike funk of Lullaby (a symbolic song for Cure fans), the long A Forest, A Night Like This etc. etc... needless to say, the band plays great.

The Cure have always been an anomaly in the history of rock and in this VHS they fully confirm it; this live has always moved me a lot, and perhaps today it may seem a bit dated and ridiculous because you need to watch it with the eyes of the period it was released.

In conclusion, if you are still dreamers and romantics, I recommend it; otherwise, forget it...SEE YOU....
