The Profile

The Crown are a Swedish death/thrash metal band formed in 1990 in Trollhättan. Initially known as Crown of Thorns, they adopted the name The Crown before issuing late-’90s staples like Hell Is Here (1999) and Deathrace King (2000). Crowned in Terror (2002) featured Tomas Lindberg on vocals; Possessed 13 followed in 2003 before a split in 2004. Reformed in 2009, they released Doomsday King (2010), then continued with Death Is Not Dead (2015), Cobra Speed Venom (2018) and Royal Destroyer (2021).

Core contributors include vocalist Johan Lindstrand, guitarists Marko Tervonen and Marcus Sunesson, bassist Magnus Olsfelt, and drummer Janne Saarenpää. Tomas Lindberg handled vocals on Crowned in Terror (2002). The band blend death and thrash with melodic Gothenburg elements and relentless speed.

Four DeBaser reviews paint The Crown as a ferocious Swedish death/thrash force: high speed, tight technique and Gothenburg-tinged melodies. Crowned in Terror earns top praise (with Tomas Lindberg on vocals), while Deathrace King is hailed for its lethal mix and punk’n’roll grit. The Burning showcases their early blackened edge, and Crowned Unholy revisits Crowned in Terror with Johan Lindstrand’s vocals and beefed-up production. Overall mood: adrenaline and admiration.
