If you take No Need To Argue, one of the masterpieces of the famous Irish band The Cranberries, and re-release it on the market with a new edition featuring five bonus tracks, the result is a confirmation of the album's greatness.
The Cranberries of Dolores O'Riordan are personally my favorite band, and having to make the now necessary distinctions, the Cranberries of the first three albums are, in my opinion, fantastic. I discovered The Cranberries' albums in the Complete Session, and the bonus tracks do not, in my opinion, detract from the harmony that already reigned in the album among the tracks. The album has many masterpieces, from Twenty One, written the day O'Riordan turned the now distant twenty-one, to Disappointment, a song delicate and strong at the same time. It's pointless to describe the famous Zombie, a masterpiece still highly appreciated by many young people today.
Of the five bonus tracks, in my opinion, only one is really bad, and it’s a poorly done remix version of Zombie.
But listening to I Don't Need, Away and So Cold In Ireland we understand that this album contained so many little masterpieces that it was necessary to eliminate tracks worthy of becoming great singles. The last bonus track to mention is Close to you, a very sweet cover, very beautiful and romantic.
If it's true that music is subjective, allow me to say that among the tracks hides an immense masterpiece that has gone a bit unnoticed. It’s the fourth single released, poignant, angry, exasperated, full of pathos and feeling, it is in my opinion the greatest masterpiece of The Cranberries, Ridiculous Thoughts. The chorus is powerful and truly chilling, in every possible sense.
But absolutely a personal opinion and difficult to elaborate given the beauty of all the tracks, among which I also highlight Daffodil Lament, with its epic style and beloved by fans who have dubbed it 'the most beautiful song of The Cranberries'; the famous Ode To My Family; the energetic I Can't Be With You; the moving Everything I Said, and perhaps I should stop since I've named almost all the tracks.
The only downside of the album in my opinion is the conclusion, brilliant in the original version, with No Need To Argue (the track) that lulls the listener and slowly, always with great pathos, closes the magnificent work, but in the Complete Session emblematic with Zombie Remix which seems to say "Go back and listen to the other tracks...".
In conclusion, I say that this is an album not just great, but more than that, because when an album becomes part of you, it’s not enough to say that it’s great. Many might not like it, but for just as many people, it can be a companion at any time and become part of their lives forever. If The Cranberries were to reunite, I sincerely hope they return to the path they took with their first, fantastic masterpieces.
