From the title itself, Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons seem to want to emphasize their name change. Yes, because before this album they were known as Dust Brothers, but after a threat of legal action by the real Dust Brothers, the British duo had to quickly change their name.
And here they are, with this "Exit Planet Dust", a legendary debut that marks the birth of the most cutting-edge electronic dance music.
From the very first tracks, you can fully grasp the essence of Big Beat: a beat, indeed, that never stops until the end of the track; yet it manages not only to make you dance with pleasure, but you also find yourself humming every sound, every fragment of the beat, even when the track is over.
But be careful, this doesn't mean that every track is a tedious earworm, on the contrary: rhythms and sounds have been created and mixed here with the right chemical ingredients, and the result is so delightful that you'll be licking your chops afterward (get the idea?).
And from here on, the Chemical Brothers, already off to a great start, would continue to create amazing works, filled with extraordinary invention and capable of making even the most laid-back listener dance (see "Dig Your Own Hole", for example).
Long live the Big Beat!
