THE REVIEW

The idea is good. A "live" best-of instead of the usual collection with the never-before-released new single (which, by the way, they had released 2 years ago, "Melting pot"). An opportunity, for those who have never seen them live, to hear how talented and captivating they are even away from the recording studios. From the "beggy" period with the splendid "The Only One I Know" to the latest convincing releases like "Judas" or "Love Is The Key," through the most beautiful single "Weirdo" and the two masterpieces "One To Another" and "How High." A good selection of tracks. A long journey for the group with the least self-promoting name in the pop scene through the various misadventures that have befallen the band, from the departure of the first guitarist, to the incarceration of the keyboardist, who died a few years later in a car accident. In short, the task was carried out properly. The problem, if we want, is precisely here and has perhaps always been their limitation: good but not exceptional. Good performances but never a peak. This review examines The Charlatans' live best-of album 'Live It Like You Love It.' It praises the thoughtful track selection spanning their career and highlights the band's consistent live talent. However, it notes the performances, while good, never reach exceptional levels. The album offers a solid retrospective but with some limitations.

The Charlatans

English rock band formed in 1988, emerging from the Madchester/baggy scene with the debut Some Friendly (1990) and its hit The Only One I Know. Led by Tim Burgess, their Hammond-driven sound was defined early on by Rob Collins (who died in 1996 during Tellin' Stories), and they later endured the loss of drummer Jon Brookes (2013). They achieved major success with Tellin' Stories and continued with Modern Nature and Different Days.
