The The Chariot is the band of Josh Scogin (former Norma Jean), playing abrasive mathcore that almost borders on noise.
They have released three studio albums so far under the Christian label Solid State Records, and it's needless to say that they are carbon copies of each other.
Whether this is good or bad, you decide.
This "Wars And Rumors Of Wars," however, seems to be the sum of all the (good) things Scogin & company have done.
There are 10 songs for 30 minutes of "music," 30 minutes that are more than enough to knock the listener out.
The blame for this K.O., besides obviously schizophrenic tracks like "Teach," "Evolve," or "Daggers," is on the very distinctive sound that sets The Chariot's productions apart from the crowd.
In fact, these madmen record their productions live with overdubs turned to the max, without any mastering:
the result, compared to the usual modern mega-productions, is quite debatable, but there's no doubt that here the devastation is real.
I saw them in concert, but they are not for me.
I love their music, but live these guys hurt you.
In the true sense of the word.
I realize this review is short and sucks, but it's just a couple of lines to introduce you to this band which, in my opinion, can still give a lot to the already saturated (and messed up) metalcore scene and its various subgenres.
I don't know why, but they remind me of Botch.
