LA RECENSIONE

Guys, I've heard the name The Brilli mentioned a few times here and there without ever paying the due attention, as I was attracted, as one often is, by other heavily sponsored bands. I had downloaded a couple of tracks in mp3 from their previous CD ‘Gas Mafia Panico e Sogni’, which I really liked.

Now I have their “Volare sopra il cielo” in my hands and oh guys, I tell you, it kicks ass! Great stuff, these guys know how to write real punk rock songs with a truly fiery impact and never, I say never, banal lyrics. The genre is punk rock, so no frills or needless solos, just simple but sharp stuff.
The musical lines proposed by The Brilli are something that deviates quite a bit from the usual Northern Italian punk rock which all sounds a bit the same (at least among the Milanese bands that are quite uniform in the usual style), at least in the way they tackle the piece and the vocal lines.

The tracks “C'est la vie” and “Non siamo stati noi” make one think about this world and a way to change it by starting to change ourselves, and the same goes for “Una sola nazione” and “Vecchi tempi”. The 4/4 time signatures are just right, those that don't let you stand still. Also worth noting is the track “Solo noi”, expertly seasoned with an intro featuring a nice clean chorus/flanger sound, which then suddenly kicks off and goes straight through to the orgasmic finale of the chorus “Resteremo solo noi, solo noi, pochi come gli anti-eroi..”. There is ample room for social critique in the lyrics, as for example in “Benvenuti in Iraq” and “Una sola nazione”, authentic slashes at the false Italian and American political systems.

I could stay here and tell you about all the songs because each one is a little gem on its own, but instead, I urge you to get the CD and support the scene starting from these valid bands. Personally speaking, I can't wait to see these Tuscan guys live, and from the impression I got, I have a strong feeling they rock the stage too...
