If anyone thought that Rockabilly had nothing more to offer, like I did for that matter, you might change your mind by listening to this album by the Brains, a Canadian band with several CDs under their belt.
Heard by chance at a concert at the TNT in Milan, 30 people in total to be generous, they played after a couple of Italian bands that were quite good but a bit predictable, and suddenly the level rises dramatically: explosive drumming, powerful double bass, and René "D La Muerte" Garcia on guitar and vocals, what can I say... impeccable even while playing and singing at breakneck speeds.
Obviously, I bought the CD at the end of the concert and, recommended by the drummer, Phil The Beast, who reminds me of the one from the Hormonauts but if possible even better, I bought this Drunk Not Dead.
It starts off with a bang and doesn’t slow down for all 13 songs that, thanks to excellent recording, resonate cleanly and comprehensibly, with René's voice making the ensemble melodic and captivating, like a Brian Setzer who successfully tries to control his band's adrenaline attacks.
The best part of the CD comes toward the end, the last 4 tracks, from "Gato Galavera" in Spanish, to the last one, "In League"
If you love the genre and '50s rock n roll style played at a speed suited to our times, this album will entertain you greatly...
