Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr... I've had the new Blow Monkeys CD, "If Not Now, When?", on my desktop for two days now, and out of deep bitterness ("what bitterness..."), I respond to the dismay by reviewing the previous work "Feels Like A New Morning," from a couple of years ago. As a fan of Doc Robert's band from day one (1984), I welcomed with genuine enthusiasm a commendable, inspired work, masterfully played and orchestrated. With equal amazement, I now listen to the new album, which the Doctor claims to be "our best production ever." I must have misunderstood, honestly. Rather sloppy, overly retro to the point of cloying, "If Not Now, When?" isn't even a third cousin to "Feels Like A New Morning," whose brilliance is evident right from the cover. Colorful, autumnal, fresh. Just like the music, starting with the title track, whose sound echoes, noblesse oblige, the marvelous soundtrack of the overdone TV series "True Detective." Oh, there are a couple more gems, the real kind. "Cover Me" and "Chained," two of the most beautiful songs of the entire solar year 2013. Two autumns later, and with spring approaching, despite the blue sky and the swooping birds on the cover, the new record makes one increasingly want to re-inject the old one into their veins. Kudos for the inspiration. So much so, that it vanished in the blink of an eye. Just like on the cover.

I just got your message
baby
so sad to see you fade away.
What in the world is this feeling to catch a breath
and leave me reeling?
It'll get you in the end
it's God's revenge.
Oh
I know I should come clean
but I prefer to deceive.
Zveryday I walk alone and I pray that God won't see me.
I know it's wroncJ
I know it's wrong.
Tell me why is it' I'm digging your scene

I know I'll die
baby.

They put you in a home to fill in

but I wouldn't call that living.
I'm like a boy arnong men
I'd like a permanent friend.
I'd like to think that I was just myself again.
Tell me why is it I'm digging your scene

I know I'll die
baby.
