The blinding light. A bolt from the blue... and it's precisely this devastating effect that is produced by this band from San Francisco, one of the most monstrous and ferocious metal creatures around.
The singer spits out a furious and "dry" scream at the limits of human possibilities, but what truly amazes is the drummer, who keeps time at truly incredible speeds. The speed is alternated with heavy, cadenced metalcore parts or even slower parts that are very distressing and claustrophobic, all of which is "pressed" into the vortex of two guitars, sometimes grinding riffs, sometimes schizophrenic. And this happens even within a single song.
In my opinion, the two gems of the album are “Routine Seizure,” penetrating, sharp, almost disconcerting with its anger, and “Light,” which culminates in a wicked and hopeless scream at the end. Imagine Slayer crossed with Converge with a hint of Neurosis, and you will have an initial rough idea of what this monolithic album might sound like.
It's particularly enjoyable how every note is played as if it were the last, as if there were no tomorrow, as if all the rot of the earth needed to be uprooted by boundless anger. All this and more are the Blinding Light. Extreme, uncompromising, and powerful.
For metal, there is still hope.
