The mere fact that there is only one review of the Black Keys on DeBaser suggests how little known this excellent band is. To be fair, I discovered them only a couple of months ago while listening to their single "Just Got To Be" on TV (obviously at night), and I was positively impressed.

The music of the Black Keys is clearly rooted in blues, reminiscent of Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix; unadorned, genuine music that hits you right in the gut. Like the White Stripes, they're a duo, but in my opinion, despite some comparisons, the points of contact aren't that many, especially considering the drums, which here is an indispensable element (no offense, Meg!). Besides the already mentioned "Just Got To Be", it's worth remembering the powerful "Give Your Heart Away", the dreamy "You're The One", which is the only track that could be considered a ballad, and the enticing "The Flame". Otherwise, the album flows smoothly with robust tracks of excellent rock-blues.

Probably less varied than the previous "Rubber Factory," the album certainly won't stand out for variety and originality, but welcome are the bands that make us relive the spirit of an era. It is strongly recommended to anyone who appreciates music played with passion.

Tracklist Lyrics and Videos

01   Just Got to Be (03:00)

02   Your Touch (02:44)

Hey!
And I want,
And you got it,
So much,
I'm crazy for,

Your touch,
Your touch,
Your touch,
Your touch,

And I'll be good,
Like I should,
Waitin' is such,
Misery, I need,

Your touch,
Your touch,
Your touch,
Your touch,

Hey!

A little louder now,
I've got to shout it now,
Please rush,
I need,

Your touch,
Your touch,
Your touch,
Your touch...hey .

11   Elevator (03:43)

In the elevator,
I pick my floor,
And if I wanna battle,
I pick my war,

Hold tight,
Hold on,
Hold tight,
I was blind for a time,
Now I find,
The choice is mine,

And I get seasick,
On dry land,
And I hear voices,
Sayin' "Do what you can,"

Hold tight,
Hold on,
Oh,
I was blind for a time,
Now I find,
That the choice is mine,

Hold tight,
Hold on,
Oh,
I was blind for a time,
Now I find,
That the choice is mine,
The choice is mine,
Oh~oh~oh, oh,
The choice is mine,
Oh~oh oh...yeah.
