Third work for the Australians The Berzerker. The difference from previous works is minimal: songs no longer than three minutes at incredible speeds and the use of electronic music elements. At first listen, the album may seem all the same, but only after a few listens do the various nuances of all the songs begin to appear.
The album opens with a trio of infernal songs: "Committed To Nothing", "Black Heart", and "All About You". In both, the drums reach incredible speeds (the band boasts drummer David Gray, who entered the Guinness World Records for being considered the fastest in the world) and the guitar riffs create a wall of sound that petrifies the listener. The subsequent tracks continue in this style, but don't think the pace slows down; rather, it’s precisely in the seventh track, "Y", that our Berzerker maximizes the drummer.
From this track onward, the songs increase in length, but the drum pace remains the same as the previous tracks.
From here, the album doesn't have much more to say, at least until the last two tracks. The penultimate track, "Silence", explains it all by itself: 5:03 minutes of pure silence, almost as if specifically placed to give the listener’s poor ears a rest. After this song, it’s time for "Farewell", a very long 20-minute track where the slow rhythm and riff hypnotize the listener (or put them to sleep).
Ultimately, the album is not suitable for those new to the genre and needs several listens to be appreciated. My rating is 4, not an absolute masterpiece but not an album to discard either.
