The Bats are a New Zealand indie rock band formed in Christchurch in 1982, associated with the Dunedin sound and known for jangle/lo-fi pop.

Formed in Christchurch in 1982. Core members include Robert Scott, Kaye Woodward, Paul Kean and Malcolm Grant.

DeBaser's reviews praise The Bats' early lo-fi, jangle-pop charm and melodic craft. Daddy's Highway is singled out as an essential album. Early EPs collected on Compiletely Bats show a naive, wistful aesthetic rooted in Byrds/Velvet Underground influences.

For:Fans of jangle pop, Dunedin sound, lo-fi indie and 1980s alternative rock
