Bakersfield Boogie Boys - Bakersfield Boogie Boys, 1980.

SERVICE INFO

The Bakersfield Boogie Boys had a long and lightning-fast career. Formed in 1980, they debuted that same year with the self-titled EP. In the same year, they disbanded forever. Wow! Collectors are already eager for this 12" rarity.
Joking aside - and the collectible value of their vinyl is no joke! Nor is the fact that it's the only one they ever made...

Let's start with the track "I Get Around." This is a cover of the famous "I Get Around" by The Beach Boys contained on the B-side of the "Don’t Worry Baby" album from 1964. Besides this song, the work in question by the Bakersfield Boogie Boys contains three other tracks: "Okie from Muskogee", "Get off my cloud" and "Flying Tigers".
So: "Okie from Muskogee" is the forerunner of the a+b: the original lyrics of the song are a country piece by Merle Haggard (see photo below) from 1969, and the music is that of an unlikely "Satisfaction" by Devo. The Rolling Stones are responsible for the original of "Get off my cloud", while "Flying Tigers" is entirely their own creation.

The Bakersfield Boogie Boys were first published in 1979 included in the ELLEPI "Devotees" for Rhino Records. The vinyl collects the songs of the winners of a contest held by KROQ-FM (Los Angeles Radio) for the summers of 1978 and 1979. The subject of the contest? The best interpretations of the legendary Devo!
In '80, their self-titled 12" is released. And we already know this.
In '95, again with the song "Okie from Muskogee," they are included in the double CD "Tales from the Rhino", published by Rhino / WEA.
Finally, we find them again, this time with the song "I Get Around," in the collection "WEIRDPUNK L.A.: Late '70s/Early '80s Los Angeles Underground Sounds - Rare, Ripped From Vinyl!" curated by SRI (Sonic Reclamation Industries) - a branch of M-1.

FINAL CONSIDERATIONS

1. You can download the entire "Bakersfield Boogie Boys" EP from Wiel’s Time Capsule (in an Electric Storm) which, among other things, might be the most beautiful and sensible music blog I've seen in recent years!!!!!!

2. Why have I gone on for so long? Well... Maybe because it took me three to gather all the information, and out of spite, I've presented them all to you without a filter... take that!

3. And now Merle Haggard. Class of 1937.
On October 2, 2007, his last album was released: "The Bluegrass Sessions." It's the old folks that I love...
