Physical freedom, artistic freedom.

Red and Andy Dufresne reunite, after spending many years together inside Shawshank prison, on the beach in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, enjoying retirement while sipping a mojito and toasting to friendship. The kept promise of meeting again somewhere, even better if in paradise.

Or the hero everyone thought was dead in a spectacular explosion reappears with a mustache and sunglasses, under a false name, on the shore of some Pacific atoll facing an incredulous, tearful partner.

The backdrop could be that of “Sundub Society.”

Bahama Social Club is the project of German Oliver Belz, a continuation of what was done with The Ju Ju Orchestra. Having emigrated years ago to Portugal and relocated to the Algarve region, he has become a well-known name on the local scene. For this new release, in addition to giving space to established artists, emerging artists are also recruited.

The usual Latin and jazz rhythms now merge more with Jamaican spices. It's a fresh melting pot where different ingredients are combined for a satisfying final result. Whether it's the bossa nova of the instrumental “Surfing Zavial,” the dub of “Hangout,” Brazilian music (“Zambujeira”), or the soulful elegance of “The Rooster Calls” featuring the voice of Josephine Nightingale. The search and fusion of styles belonging to different geographical traditions produce a more than positive final result in the most recommended season for listening.

Make yourself comfortable on a sunbed, order yourself a good fruit alcoholic cocktail and put on a pair of headphones.
