THE REVIEW

Second work for the Germans Terranova, following their solid debut with "Close the Door" and a collection of remixes for the Dj-Kicks series released by the label K7, which has now become a reference point for the current electronic scene after the launch of none other than "their majesties" Kruder & Dorfmeister.

Literally, it should mean "hitchhiking non-stop and without a specific destination," but the conditional is mandatory. What is certain, however, is a difference in sound from the previous album, which is evident from the first listen.

If the 1999 debut was indeed structured on chiaroscuro constructions, it was due to the still-resonant echoes of that trip-hop scene which, the previous year, had seen its "founding fathers" give birth to masterpieces like "Mezzanine" (Massive Attack) and "Angels with Dirty Faces" (Tricky, who lent his genius to the debut of the three Berliners).
Today, more than three years later, the electronic scene has evolved in a thousand directions, and with it, the sound of Terranova, undoubtedly more eclectic.

The new album seems to be a child of the "club culture" and all that whirlwind of styles and tastes encountered, precisely, in clubs. It's like taking a big box and throwing in a bit of everything: from the rap and hip-hop of "Sublime" and "Heroes" to the electric punk of "Good Bye the Ferrari," from the big beat of "Running Away" and "Women Beat Their Men" to the dub structures of "Equal Rights" and the techno of "Concepts".

It's an impactful melting pot that becomes the strength of this work. But, inevitably, also a limitation; the lack of a connective thread and the coexistence of such heterogeneous styles may not appeal to the "purists" and might leave one disoriented in the face of the absence of that unique sound that distinguished the debut album.

Alchemical and undecided.

Summary by Bot

Terranova's second album marks a clear stylistic shift from their debut, embracing an eclectic mix of electronic subgenres inspired by club culture. While this diversity creates a vibrant and impactful soundscape, it also lacks the cohesive thread that characterized their earlier trip-hop influenced work. Fans of pure electronic styles may find the broad variety both a strength and a limitation. Overall, the album represents a bold but somewhat uncertain musical evolution.
