The album I want to talk about today is the one that made me fall in love with an incredible artist, unfortunately forgotten today. I'm talking about Teresa Brewer, who has recorded albums in a multitude of genres, such as Pop, Jazz, Country, Folk, Big Band, Rock, Disco, etc. The album in question was recorded in 1982 by "Project 3 Records" and features some of the most famous numbers from Musicals.
The record begins with "Come Follow The Band," a title track that immediately immerses us in the vocal power and unique interpretative skill of the great Teresa. The second track, "The Colors Of My Life," is one of the most beautiful on this album, and with a slightly nostalgic melody, it transports us to distant horizons (Not all artists can create this effect!). Next, the very famous "Bei Mir Bist Du Schon (Means That You're Grand)" seems perfect for Teresa's voice, which easily transitions from a slow song to a lively one with great ease. As proof of this, the following "What A Wonderful World" is beautiful, and perhaps (in my personal opinion) much better than the original, just like the very lively "Hey, Look Me Over."
The second side of the record begins with a unique version of "Theme From New York, New York," which could have been arranged better, much like the rather uninteresting "Cake Walkin' Babies From Home," which conveys little of Teresa's beautiful "soul." However, the following "Mack The Knife" is beautiful (which I like much more than Darin's!), and to finish, a very exciting and gentle jazz medley "Medley: (It Had To Be You - I've Got A Crush On You)."
This album has represented a significant part of my existence and will always remain in my heart. Thanks to it, I have been able to deeply appreciate the skill and the incredible voice of Teresa Brewer.
