THE REVIEW

They come from Kettering, Northamptonshire, they make great psychedelic music and they are the rock band of the future. This is a good starting point to begin talking about the debut of this English group formed by James Edward Bagshaw (vocals, guitar, and reincarnation of Marc Bolan!), Thomas Edison Warmsley (bass), Sam Toms (drums), and Adam Smith (keyboards and guitar), whose name has been circulating for months during which they've opened concerts for Suede, Kasabian, and Primal Scream, received unexpected public endorsements from figures like Johnny Marr and Noel Gallagher, and released four singles ("Shelter Song," "Colours To Life," "Keep In The Dark," "Mesmerize") between the end of 2012 and 2013 that have intensified the hype around the release of this "Sun Structures".

If the most obvious comparison is with groups like MGMT and, especially, Tame Impala (they will appeal to those who loved "Lonerism"), they infill their sound with more typically British and sixties sounds drawing from the Beatles (see the riff of "Shelter Song") as well as from the Kinks (the sweet "The Golden Throne"), to T-Rex (the danceable "Keep In The Dark") and the prog style of King Crimson in the title track. The critics and detractors won't be missing, and they are already ready to lash out against yet another product of the English music industry and NME touted as the "next big thing" or against a sound too indebted to the past. But these guys are genuinely talented and are poised to mark the next decade just as Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys did in the previous one.

Worth noting is the cover, which pays homage to the historic "Who's Next" by The Who. Yes, perhaps they're right, they're just revivalists, but what fantastic music!

Key tracks: "Shelter Song," "Keep In The Dark," "Move With The Season," "A Question Isn't Answered"
